Watch the Three Stooges with Kirby Heyborne

We have previously posted that Kirby Heyborne will be in the upcoming movie The Three Stooges. Kirby is a funny Mormon that has been in several movies now. Well, if you are in the Phoenix metro area, now you have a chance to meet him and watch The Three Stooges movie with him. He is going to be watching the movie in Chandler on April 23 at 7pm and is inviting fans to come watch it with him. You can buy tickets to the show on his website (kirbyheyborne.com). Act soon if you want tickets because the theater will fill up quickly.

I have to admit, this movie isn’t my style of comedy, but I know some people are big fans of the classic trio.

Some of you may know who ShayCarl is. We have featured him and his family in previous posts. He is a YouTube comedian that does skits and also daily vlogs with his family. He is a Mormon and recently he and his brother Casey got a chance to do a funny interview/skit with Charles Barkley, the former basketball player. They asked him a question about Jimmer Fredette and Danny Ainge and he made a funny comment about them. If you start listening at about the 6:36 mark you will get to it.

On His blog Kirby Heyborne announced last week that he has been cast on a new 3 stooges film…

I have been cast in the Farrelly brothers’ comedy, “The Three Stooges.” I am playing alongside Sean Hayes, Will Sasso, Chris Diamantopoulos, Sofia Vergara, Jane Lynch, and Larry David. I’m in Atlanta for the next little while having the time of my life. Thanks for your support. I’ll keep you posted with more movie details!

Despicable Me

One part of a successful movie that I feel doesn’t get enough credit is the screenplay writer. When I mention the movie Despicable Me, you probably recognize the name of a movie that came out in the summer of 2010. When I say the names Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, you most likely have not heard of them. Well, they are the writers of the screenplay for Despicable Me. They also wrote the screenplay for Horton Hears a Who! (2008), Santa Clause 2 (2002) and a few others.

These funny guys just happen to be Mormon. Just in case you were wondering, Cinco Paul got his name because he was born on May 5th, or Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican holiday. Cinco is originally from Arizona and is actually my dad’s cousin. Isn’t it a small world in the Mormon culture?

Robert Holley in Korea

Most of the FunnyMormons.com readers probably don’t know about Robert Holley. He is a radio talk show host in South Korea. He also started an international school there that prepares South Korean students for universities in the US. He also does commercials for different products. I guess he is also a lawyer. And…he is a Mormon. A man of many trades, it appears. Supposedly he is very well known in South Korea and very funny.

I found out about him because he is my brother-in-law’s uncle. Here is a commercial that he did for some noodles. I don’t understand any of what he is saying, but if we have any readers that do, please share. You can follow him on twitter @holleyinkorea to see more of what he is up to.

Jon Schmidt – Love Story Meets Viva la Vida

Jon Schmidt is a Mormon performing artist. He plays the piano, but does more than that; he entertains his audience. I went to his concert last night and got a lot of laughs. He has funny songs (Dumb Song), high energy songs (All of Me, North Pole Express) and some slower songs (I Do). He didn’t play I Do last night, but it is one of my favorite John Schmidt songs.

In 2009 he arranged a remix of Love Story by Taylor Swift and Viva la Vida by Coldplay combined into one song called Love Story Meets Viva la Vida. It has become a hit on YouTube. He played it last night, but hasn’t worked out the legal details to play them both together in the concert so he had to stop and introduce the songs separately. He actually made it quite comical and it seemed like most of the audience had seen the Youtube video, so they knew how it sounds together.

I have included a video of Jon Schmidt playing Dumb Song taken by someone at a concert in London. He was wearing a bright red wig last night. He explained that in the wig there is a pad, so he won’t injure his head from hitting it against the piano so hard.

Eric Snider and the Clash of the Titanic

Eric Snider is a Mormon columnist who has a long history of humor in the LDS culture. He started a comedy club at BYU back in the 1990′s called the Garrens Comedy Troupe. He wrote movie reviews for the BYU newspaper The Daily Universe while at BYU as well. He continues to write humorous columns and movie reviews for several newspapers and on his blog “Snide Remarks” on his site http://www.ericdsnider.com/. One of his most famous posts was about the movie Titanic. The post is titled Clash of the Tatanic and is an abbreviated script of the movie. It was originally published in 1998 in the Daily Universe as a movie review and is pretty funny. It also has a pretty interesting history of going viral. You can read that in the remarks below the post here.

To tell you the truth this is the first time I had read this column. Another confession…I haven’t even seen Titanic. I am not much of a movie watcher, so it is one of many “must sees” that I haven’t seen. Oh well.
