admin | February 24, 2010 | 11:43 am

They Might Be Elders is a mormon parody group from Orem, UT. You can see more of their stuff at theymightbeelders.com  This parody is of Avril Livigne’s song “Girlfriend”

Overheard at BYU

byu logoA fun facebook fan page  for sharing random quotes from BYU students and professors. Some examples:

Brother Bott: “dating at BYU is o.k. You should try it some time.”

A few days ago in the WILC there was this guy talking to his friends and he said, “Duuuude! I was in the periodicals today, and I screamed in my head ‘if you can read my mind, hit the table!’ and a bunch of people hit the table.”

Biology a couple days back. The teacher yells “MY Ovaries” as a way for us to remember meiosis

overheard a girl talking on the phone to someone about a date she had been on. This was the gist of the conversation: “I went on a date with a guy to a restaurant and he prayed before we ate our food.. And I don’t want to feel like a bad Mormon, but I don’t want to go out with him again because he prayed in a restaurant..”

When you are trapped in a tiny campus for a couple months with no TV, radio or internet you have to be really creative with your entertainment.  Feel free to send me your fun MTC pictures.

Jimmer Fredette against University of Arizona
admin | January 29, 2010 | 9:41 am

What a game that was. You can’t help but laugh at this showing. Typically the U of A is a top ranked basketball team. This year BYU slaughtered them and the MVP was Jimmer Fredette with 49 points, breaking a school record for most points scored in a game.

The Phone Call

Here is a classic BYU produced film from 1977. It’s a fun one to laugh at. Maybe later I can post Johnny Lingo.

Elna Baker
admin | January 13, 2010 | 3:00 pm

elna bakerElna Baker is the author of The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance. You can check her out at elnabaker.com.  She is an actress/comedian/writer and has written for ELLE Magazine, GLAMOUR, Five Dials and The Onion. She also appeared in The New Yorker.

I’m still trying to figure out what I think of her material.  Her appeal is more for Non-mormon New Yorkers.  She plays off of quirky LDS culture and how absurd it can seem to the rest of the world.

Fake Mission Calls
admin | January 11, 2010 | 10:57 am

When young LDS men and women send in their papers to go on a mission they don’t know where they will go for the next 18-24 months.  It is a time of excitement and anticipation. I have found several videos online of people pranking pre missionaries at this vunerable time. Here is one example.  I thought today it might be a good idea to offer an online service for generating fake mission calls.  Guests can enter the missionary’s name and choose the location and language and an authentic looking mission call is sent to their target.  Any thoughts on the idea? Good idea? Bad idea?

Nomrom
admin | December 28, 2009 | 9:07 am

Nomrom Green JelloHope you had a great Christmas and got everything you wanted.  Did you celebrate nomrom this year? I found out about it a little too late.  It was yesterday but I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to celebrate on the 28th since it is right between Christmas and New Years. Plus it is family night tonight! Nomrom is Mormon backward.  It is the day Mormons celebrate Mormon culture.  So celebrate by having green jello, singing primary songs and enjoy some punch and cookies.  What does your family do for Nomrom?

J Golden Kimball
admin | December 21, 2009 | 9:11 am

J Golden Kimball was a member of the council of the seventy in the early 1900s. He was known for his colorful vocabulary and drinking coffee. The guy was the son of Heber C. Kimball (one of his 65 children). Today I was thinking this blog needs some J Golden Kimball stories so I did a quick search and this was one of my favorite little stories. I could have a section of this site dedicated to J Golden stories.

J. Golden Kimball was riding on a stagecoach somewhere in Missouri. A group of men were riding along with him, and they began to complain about the Mormons. Apparently, they didn’t realize a Mormon was among them. One man said he hated the Mormons with a passion, thus he was going to Texas to get away from them. Another man said he was going to Kentucky to get away from the Mormons. And finally, a third man said he was going to Boston to get away from all the “blankety-blank” Mormons. J Golden Kimball then said, “Why don’t you all just go to Hell because there won’t be any Mormons there.”

Mormon Song on Tonight Show
admin | December 17, 2009 | 4:39 pm

A little while ago I posted a video of a song written by Senator Orrin Hatch . The tonight show with Conan O’brien liked it and wanted to return the favor and performed their own Mormon Song.
