One Year of Funny Mormons
I just realized that yesterday was the one year anniversary of this blog. I didn’t even have a party. It makes me stop and ask, “Why the heck did I create this blog?”
It was sort of an experiment. Most of the things I do online are experiments. I get a lot of crazy ideas for websites. In fact, I got a really good one yesterday that I’ll have to tell you about. Anyway, a year ago I was trying to think of things that I would enjoy creating content for. The key to building a successful site is to be able to create a lot of content. The domain funnymormons was available and there was nothing like it out there really so I decided to showcase mormon humor, comedians and anything funny and remotely lds related.
I started off strong posting nearly every days and sometimes more than once. I wanted to build up the content and start getting the traffic. I never did much in the way of promoting the site I wanted to experiment with natural growth. Sure enough, if you post enough, at least one post is going to generate some good traffic. That is exactly what happend. Nearly 80% of the traffic to this blog comes from people searching for shaycarl or shaytards. A post I created nearly one year ago is ranked #2 in google for those search terms.
Unfortunately, the fire for finding good content slowly faded and it got more and more difficult to find original funny lds content. My hope was to have the community bring the content to me. That is still the hope and it is beginning to happen.
If you are a comedian, cartoonist or you just want to create something and post it, let funny mormons help you find your audience.
